Canada Funding Opportunities
FUNDING PROGRAMMES and INSTITUTIONS
NSERC - university research in all domains
CIHR - health related research for universities and small and medium sized enterprises
IRAP - small and medium sized research institutions in all domains
- Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)
By investing in research infrastructure projects, the CFI's goal is to strengthen the capability of Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals, and other not-for-profit institutions to carry out world-class research and technology development. http://www.innovationcanada.ca/ - Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
CIHR consists of 13 "virtual" institutes” that work together to shape a national health research agenda for Canada. The institutes bring together researchers, health professionals and policy-makers from voluntary health organizations, provincial government agencies, international research organizations and industry and patient groups from across the country with a shared interest in improving the health of Canadians. http://www.cihr.ca http://www.cihr.ca/
Collaborative Research Project Grants:- Support Canadian researchers to engage in international collaborative research projects that form part of mutual areas of health research priorities for CIHR, and the foreign researcher(s).
- Applications accepted all year round. http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/28715.html
- The National Research Council's Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP)
The National Research Council's Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) is Canada's premier innovation assistance program for small and medium-sized Canadian enterprises (SMEs). IRAP will support participation by researchers in international programmes under specified term and conditions.

Science and Engineering Research Canada (NSERC), is the national instrument for making strategic investments in Canada's capability in science and technology. NSERC supports both basic university research through discoverygrants and project research through partnerships among universities, governments and the private sector, as well as the advanced training of highly qualified people.
NSERC's core programs provide funding that can be used to support collaborations between Canadian researchers and researchers abroad. The terms and conditions of NSERC grants are sufficiently flexible to permit their use for international exchange or collaboration purposes. Such collaboration is entirely at the discretion of the individual researchers and NSERC is not involved in making decisions on how researchers use their grants (beyond published guidelines - Grant Holder's Guide).
Depending on the nature of your collaboration, please note that NSERC's Special Research Opportunity (SRO) grants enable researchers to pursue new and emerging research opportunities, or to investigate and develop collaborations necessary to respond to national and international opportunities. It provides short-term support for research projects with significant potential benefit to Canada. Research funding requests to this program must not be eligible for other NSERC programs. - Going Global Science and Technology Fund
Canada supports a program called Going Global to foster international S&T cooperation. The program will support visits and projects that aim to build on targeted relationships between Canadian researchers and key players in other countries and allow them to proceed with the formal discussions required to initiate collaboration on future international research and development initiatives.
