C3Grid: Closed Captioning Computing Grid A new made-in Canada technology, looking for European partners, can bring closed captioning to more deaf and hearing impaired people. The Centre de recherche informatique de Montreal (CRIM) has an innovative service that combines speech recognition technology, high speed networks and grid computing to automatically close caption live TV broadcasts in both French and English, and it can accommodate other languages as well. The demonstration will show that speech recognition assisted close captioning is a viable and cost-effective alternative to stenography based closed captioning. CRIM will demonstrate a real-time closed captioning of the Canadian House of Commons Political debate as well as a video of the project.
