European FP7 Consultation Meeting on Internet of the Future
Date: September 29, 2006 Place: International Institute of telecommunication, Montréal, Canada
A WORKSHOP organized by the FET (Future and Emerging Science and Technology) component of the European Commission IST programme took place at IIT in Montreal on September 29, 2006 and addressed research areas of the internet of the future. With this workshop contributing to the forthcoming European research Framework Programme 7, FET promoted an exchange of views for stimulating cooperation between FET projects and the Canadian researchers especially in the fields of:
* autonomic communications,
* self-evolving networks ,
* beyond-IP internet, and
* facilities for testing of future internet concepts.
Both European and Canadian researchers have been encouraged to participate.
For more information and for the full agenda please visit International Institute of telecommunication.
What is FET:
FET is the IST Programme (Information Society Technologies, a subset of the European Framework Programme) nursery of novel and emerging scientific ideas. Its mission is to promote research that is of a long-term nature or involving particularly high risks, compensated by the potential of a significant societal or industrial impact.
The European 7th Framework Program for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration (RTD) Activities will run between 2007 and 2013. While the financial perspectives are notinalized,it appears increasingly likely that the EU and member states will agree on a substantial boost to R&D funding. It is expected that annual FP7 funding will reach between 8.9 - 9.2 billion Euros.
