CITO/NRC/IST-EC TechTalk - E-Content Technologies and Research Challenges

Toronto, Canada - November 21, 2002

Description

Capture, Manage, Store, Preserve and Deliver Your Content

As more organizations adopt a holistic enterprise business model, they recognize that document-level management of their current information provides little value to their internal and external customers. The value of content is independent from the formats and processes that will eventually package it into consumable information. To remain competitive in the business world, organizations must manage content separate from any particular structure, and combine it on an as-needed basis that matches customer demand.

Content Management (CM) enables organizations to deliver targeted content in the way that is most meaningful and useful to their customers. By maintaining content at an element level that is separate from business logic or formats, CM allows organizations to create content once and re-purpose it across various applications. At an enterprise level, this helps increase productivity of the content creation process, reduce time to market, improve communications, and enforce brand identity. Some tools even integrate with personalization engines and commerce systems to build customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Implementing CM can create a number of challenges around storing, searching and securing content; this TechTalk will explore the nature of these challenges and offer potential solutions.
