Events

IST-EC2 holds a serious of events in Canada and Europe, most of these events are real events and are split up in information dissemination events and networking events. Visit the Sub-Section 'IST-EC2's presence at international events' and the Sub-sections 'Events - in Europe' & 'Events - in Canada' for further information.

However IST-EC2 is also equipped for holding virtual events, thanks to a broadband connection and services offered by ISABEL. Read further information below:

The IST-EC2 Broadband Event Service

IST-EC2 partners uses broadband technology described below for trans-Atlantic coordination of the project. Regularly scheduled project meetings and meetings to organize events and activities are enhanced with the ability of partners to participate fully from remote locations. Audio video and shared work space all work together to provide a near virtual environment.

The IST-EC2 project is opening this service to members of the community for distributed collaborative activities like partnership development and project organization. Community members can apply to use the service, either by arranging to install it at their own location or by visiting one of the locations in Canada and Europe with this capability. IST-EC partners will assist in this process.
The IST-EC2 Isabel based broadband service allows the organisation of the following types of collaborative network events:

·   Distributed meetings where participants located in meeting rooms or desktops interconnected with Isabel can interact in a free and unconstraint way.

·   Distributed conferences or workshops with speakers, organisers and attendees are located in different auditoriums interconnected with Isabel.

·   Tele-classrooms where collaborative educational or training activities among different Faculties or Universities can be performed under the control of the professor or tutor.

Instructions on how to organise a collaborative session of any of those types can be found in this link http://isabel.dit.upm.es/downloads-4.8.html.

Isabel

Isabel is a multipoint group collaboration tool for the broadband Internet that provides an effective management of multipoint session, by combining TV production techniques that provide a uniform visual message to all participants, with an innovative floor control mechanism that enables an ordered intervention of the participants. Participants of an Isabel session will be able to share applications, perform presentations, request questions, perform distributed panel discussion, collaborate over a blackboard, etc, as illustrated in the following figure.
